Showing
The Farmlands Horse of the Year Showing section is where horses and ponies that have qualified at A&P; Shows and Events affiliated to the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand (RAS), come together to compete for the top NZ Showing Awards.
Known as competing in 'flat' classes, these horses and ponies are shown 'In Hand' or have a rider, and are judged on their structural beauty and elegance, paces and manners, temperament and attitude. They have all gained top awards and the necessary qualifying points at RAS Shows/Events throughout New Zealand; and are a great spectacle to watch. The high standard that is shown by riders and handlers in their presentation, riding ability and ring craft, is exceptional.
Classes within the sections at Farmlands HOY 2015 are run under height, age, breed and/or suitability criteria; and the winners of those classes come together for their Supreme Award. Special features are the 'Lead Rein' and 'First Ridden' sections for young children on small ponies; 'Rising Star' sections for those horses/ponies that are new to showing, and the prestigious Gee Whizz and Wonder Memorial Equestrian Turnout classes, where all aspects of the horse/pony, equipment and rider's skills are judged as a unit.
The Showing Section is convened by the RAS, who is keenly supported by a Committee of enthusiastic and knowledgeable equestrian people who are passionate about the Showing movement. The RAS is also indebted to the many volunteers who help out at HOY time, to ensure the smooth running of this section for the owners, competitors and large public attendance who visit the 5 days of showing competitions. Adjudicating is carried out by RAS Grade 1 listed Judges, as well as International Judges; who are all honoured to be asked to judge at such a prestigious event.
The Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand warmly invites you to attend the 2015 Farmlands Horse of the Year Show in Hastings, and looks forward to your company around the Showing Arenas.
